Lens fungus vs haze vs dust: how to tell, and what it does to the price
Three things buyers ask about before they bid on a lens — learn to tell them apart with a torch.
Dust
Small specks inside the lens. Almost every older lens has some. Usually doesn't affect photos. Mention "light internal dust".
Haze
A foggy, milky layer when you shine a torch through. It lowers contrast. Often cleanable, but say "haze" plainly — buyers will find it.
Fungus
Thread-like or web-like patterns, sometimes spreading from the edges. It can etch coatings and spread to other gear. Disclose it clearly, photograph it, and price it as for repair.
